Mediation

Sometimes parents find themselves in disagreement with school or the local education authority and, despite the efforts of the parent partnership service, there appears to be no way forward. In such cases mediation can be helpful.

Mediation is an increasingly popular way of sorting out disagreements. It offers an alternative to what can be a lengthy, confrontational and stressful legal approach.

It can be provided quickly and is usually very successful.

It focuses on improving communication and understanding between people while working towards realistic and practical agreements.

It is voluntary. For it to take place, everyone involved in the disagreement needs to agree to take part.
